Last week, I attended the last Dr Sketchy’s at The Slipper Room for their tribute to Paul Gauguin. The models were the fabulous Dame Cuchifrita and Grand MaFun - who, I’m happy to report, are performing tonight at the Slipper Room at 10.

I was recently commissioned to draw this anniversary present which commemorates a duck attack. I was thrilled. Here is the New Zealander on the American, and the American on the New Zealander. DOMA needs to be repealed. Now.
If there’s one important fact that we’ve learned as Americans over the past 150 years is that civil rights laws need to be enacted Federally. The bigots on the wrong side of history will hang on to their archaic prejudices with the grip of death, and the rights of all Americans must be taken back from them by the government whose job is to ensure the rights of all. Do your job.
Remember how the best thing that ever happened in the history of ever was when I snapped that photo of The American being bitten by a duck?
Well a better thing just arrived via FedEx.
Happy anniversary!
This was one of my recent commissions - I can’t even say how happy this has made me. Happy anniversary!
Here is the finished version of the Julia Pastrana postcard. Graphic Design by Gyda Arber, illustration by me.
I caught the opening night of Victoria Libertore’s No Need For Seduction and it was completely delightful. Read Trav S.D.’s rave here.
My illustration of Vic with Ganesha above.
Just got in the postcards from the printer for the Julia Pastrana show I’m directing in the sound scape fest next month. And I couldn’t be more pleased. First off, cavigliascabinet designed a gorgeous image for the front. And inspired by her gorgeous art, and my recent obsession with vintage postcards, I turned her card into an Art Nouveau postcard, circa 1913ish, and had it printed on high-quality linen paper. It looks beautiful. It is, if I may be so bold, a thing of beauty.
And here’s the thing… we’re so inundated with marketing materials, slick, colorful, everywhere we look. But things of beauty they are not.
A new idea: what if we make the marketing material we put into the world things of beauty, on their own? Perhaps people will be more receptive to our marketing messages this way.
Just a thought.
I’m drawing film stills again! This will be up on my Etsy store soon (along with some other small originals).
I may get tired of turning people into mermaids at some point, but it hasn’t happened yet. This was inspired by an instagram photo posted by Kat Mon Dieu of she and the great Dirty Martini performing at Night of a Thousand Stevies.
I drew this last night after becoming obsessed with a picture of late-Victorian.early 20th century actress Constance Crawley and her monkey.
I think I need to do a complete series. I am obsessed.
