Caviglia's Cabinet of Curiosities

This is one of my favorite recent subway drawings. It’s part of a series of thumbnails for a larger project. An imaginary 1915. A seaside. Winged snakes and lizards.

I inked this about a month ago, but just got around to adding color. I really love this paper!

From life, more or less. In related news - who wants to model for me next?

I spent all weekend painting in my sketchbook. Which reminds me - decent paper makes a huge difference. If you can possibly afford it, don’t skimp. Today’s advice from Auntie Caviglia. Also - I think I need to paint more tigers.

So, I accidentally left my sketchbook in the scanner this morning. And as I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to draw on the subway (my favorite!), I defaced my copy of The Mysteries of Udolpho with an illustration for the very book I was defacing.

I’ve been doing all kinds of experimentation in photoshop recently. Case in point, I made this. I’ve been playing around with salvaging my sketchbook drawings, as I think lots of the things I do in pencil have so much more life in them than my finished work. I’ll probably add some color to this at some point. 

All of my ideas, visually, about the French Revolution are filtered through WWI poster art.

I have a design up on Threadless, available to be scored. As my ability to draw and paint surpasses my graphic design abilities by about a million, I’m a little worried it won’t fare very well. Please dear friends and fans, vote big and vote often.

Viewed from the perspective that one of my goals is to draw more men, yesterday was something of a failure. Though I did manage to find a lot of picture references for men’s clothing. 

This will likely be colored in later. Either digitally or with watercolor. Or both.
